Because of these changes the necessary power reserve assumes great importance. Up till now, many reserve problems were solved simply, but now the demand for exact determination becomes much more important.

As the operating power system composition and the reserve calculation are mutually presumptive, a pre-optimization of the operation schedule is performed first on the basis of simplified reserve requirements. In a second step a reliability calculation is done and with the resulting reserve requirements the optimization repeated.
